Staycation in NYC

Recovering from a long holiday weekend in NYC!

After researching a few spots outside of the city, my husband, Mike, and I decided it was best to have a stay-cation (which is one of my favorite things to do!).  On Friday night, I made rezzies at a sushi spot in our neighborhood (Williamsburg) my friend recommended, called 1 or 8.  Let me preface this with saying that I’m not the biggest fan of sushi, but after my dinner on Friday I am a changed woman!  Not to mention, the decor at this cute little spot is completely on point.  Once you walk past the very minimalist and welcoming bar, you walk into their more formal dining space, where you’re immersed into a milky white, candlelit ambiance. This will surely be a date night location we’ll add to the list.

On Saturday morning, my little family and I, which includes my husband and our rescue puppy, Maycee, took a trip to the Rockaway Beaches in Queens.  Maycee loves running off leash, so we try to plan adventures for her as often as we can.  Once we knew this weekend was going to feel like Spring, we knew we had to take our pup to the beach.  After a long walk on the beach, and many throws of the sticks later, we headed back to Williamsburg to rest up for a friend’s Mardi Gras party that night, which was a blast.

After a fun night with friends, Mike and I decided to treat ourselves to our favorite neighborhood brunch spot, Cafe Colette.  Since it was a gorgeous morning, we took Maycee with us and sat outside, as we typically do.  I highly recommend the breakfast sandwich!  After some people watching and relaxing in the sun, we strolled over to McCarren Park to meet up with some friends.  This is a cute spot in Williamsburg to hang out when the weather starts to get a bit nicer.  You’ll find a lot of people playing games, relaxing on the grass, families having picnics, and you’ll see a ton of dogs!  Definitely a go to whenever you’re in the neighborhood in the summer months.  On our way home, we stopped in a cool boutique called Catbird.  I’ve been on the hunt for new earrings, and I knew this place, which is filled with dainty jewelry, would have exactly what I was looking for.  I picked up these Hoop Dream Earrings in yellow gold to go with my new second hole ear piercings, which I just got a few weeks ago with a friend.  I absolutely LOVE gold jewelry, especially dainty gold jewelry, so this was a perfect fit.  Later in the afternoon, I popped over to the city to pick up a new top at Anthropologie while they were having their big sale.  I found this cute asymmetrical ruffled top that I ended up wearing out to dinner that night.  We went to a delicious, modern chinese spot in Williamsburg called Kings County Imperial.  Great group dinner spot!  They also have a small outdoor garden in the summer.  After dinner, a bunch of us didn’t want the night to end so we continued on to Freehold!  It was actually pretty crowded for a Sunday night.  This is our go to dance spot in Williamburg, it never disappoints.

I rounded out my weekend with seeing one of my best girlfriends from college.  She’s in the city from Nashville, so we had the chance to hang out in Williamsburg for the day!  We caught up over coffee from one of the cutest neighborhood coffeehouses, The West.  Later that night we treated ourselves to a delicious dinner at Catch in the Meatpacking District.  I highly suggest getting the crunchy rice cakes, they were incredible!  It’s always great seeing my best friends!  I’m lucky enough to be seeing all of my college girlfriends in just a couple of weeks.  We’re heading on a girls trip to Nashville!  I’ll be posting a lot of pictures throughout the trip, so stay tuned!

That was a long post, but I wanted to share how you can have a fabulous stay-cation in your own city!

Next up on  the blog:  How to enjoy a relaxing day at home filled with self-care ideas! (Think: masks, tea, and a juicy book!)
